Plans, Reimagined

LEGACY

These drawings are from the LEGACY temporary

installation at Carrie Furnace historical site.

PLANS REIMAGINED

*2021 - Alloy Residency with Rivers of Steel Heritage Corporation

Collaborated with Rankin Christian Center in creating Legacy reflecting the remaining community since the closure of Carrie Furnace. The work, temporarily installed, uses enhanced maps made by US Steel, engineering drawings, and architectural drawings in combination with birds made from industrial processes. The birds function as paperweights for the adjusted drawings.  Over the course of a month at Carrie Furnace, time and the elements will mark the papers with rust and oxidation— demonstrating how industry has impacted the land and people of Rankin.

These are a few of the over twenty images and birds made for this installation. Feel free to contact Sandy if you have a site or are interested in the drawings and/or birds.

Nature Series

Placing the viewer in a specific time and space and connecting that moment in a universal timeline is the goal of my work. Using historical documents, plans, maps and architectural renderings, I work to visualize an intimate connection. When including nature into the work, the timeline becomes unending, unrelenting. The human focus on the importance of the individual, their presence, their contributions becomes lost in the importance of History is both private and communal, our personal experience colors our perception of time. It is this in-between space that my work resides. I make a personal history communal and bring the communal experience to the individual.
